Spitzke Chromium Carbide ® (Thin-layer Chromium)

The “pearl” in the family of chromium coatings. Its pearl-like structure and the ionic bonding of chromium through a carbon atom create a layer whose adhesion to the base material is greater than the strength of the material itself. It is a coating for extreme stress, including long-term exposure. It also delivers very high performance as a thin layer, for example in the bearing industry, and in many cases replaces thick hard chromium layers.

If food or pharmaceutical products come into direct contact with a coating, the layers must be sufficiently resistant, including to the cleaning and disinfecting agents used in the systems, and they must not contaminate the products. The corresponding approval is required for such an application.

The current approval for Spitzke Chromium Carbide® can be provided on request.
