Ductile Chromium®
Ductile Chromium®
Two variants are primarily used: thin-layer Ductile Chromium® (2-10 µm) and thick-layer Ductile Chromium® (up to 500 µm). Because of its fine-grained structure, which hardly forms build-up even on sharp edges, thin-layer Ductile Chromium® is suitable for coating cutting tools. Longer service life and anti-adhesive properties enable high-performance production at the customer’s site.
Due to its structure, the thick layer is extremely wear-resistant, even under abrasive wear, for example in paper applications.
Ductile Chromium® is also approved for pharmaceutical and food applications. The current approval can be provided on request.
Application examples
Prevention of abrasive wear in cigarette production by means of a smooth, uniform thick layer. Standard hard chromium is less suitable here because of the “orange-peel” surface.

The thick Ductile Chromium® coating delivers long service life even under high abrasive stress in a wastewater pump with abrasive solids.

Pultrusion moulds allow complex profiles to be produced by the metre using extrusion processes. Because of the fillers in the product, the mould is subject to abrasive wear. A 30-50 µm thick Ductile Chromium® coating significantly minimises wear and enables much longer service lives.

A 4–6 µm-thick Duktilchrom® coating on magnetic die-cut sheets for labels improves cutting performance and service life. Compared to hard chrome, Duktilchrom® reduces hydrogen embrittlement and does not cause edge rounding.
